Cats: A few weeks ago a stray cat found its way into our space by climbing into the embalming room through a hole in the roof, pushing open the door and crawling into the corner. When I came in that morning I noticed the distinct stench of cat spray. I must have startled the poor thing because it ran around and hid. It took Lori and me about an hour to finally flush it out. It was only one of several wild cats that live around the building. Since the addition that houses the embalming room is falling apart, I am sure there are whole litters of kittens stirring around.
Fleas: A few days after the cat incident we noticed our legs getting attacked by fleas! Despite our best efforts with store bought flea fogger, we had to call in the hired guns. They sprayed, and fumigated and powdered. They are now under control, but still occasionally a bother.
Powder-post Beetles: The scariest infestation we discovered was in the wood, molding and shelving in the back of our building. These wood boring pests are as devastating as termites, but not as voracious. We had to call back the hired guns to take care of that too!
So, after nearly $1000 and countless restless hours, we finally have things back to normal… and just in time. We will be hosting the Art and Cat Cafe this Saturday.
